
Varan Sureshan - CEO/CTO
Varan is the founder of Katru Eco-Inventions and the inventor of IMPLUX. His career across Asia, North America and Australia spans more than 30 years in energy management, commercial and industrial building engineering services design and construction and turnkey project management.
Prior to starting Katru as an innovative ideas company in renewable energy 10 years ago he was responsible for delivering complex and innovative engineering projects in energy, defence, pharmaceuticals and communications.
Varan invented and completed the R&D of the IMPLUX technology. He was also responsible for the execution of all KATRU operational activities including fund raising, working with multi-disciplinary teams of international experts, consultants and contractors to deliver the innovative wind turbine.
He designed and constructed the very first Hybrid Solar Air-Conditioned Building nearly 30 years ago and presented it at conferences. His other developments include energy saving low humidity systems and prototype industrial plants.
He has acted as Principal Engineer in public and commercial engineering services organisations including the nuclear authority ANSTO and the Australian Federal government and has managed multi-million dollar design and construction projects in the energy, hospitality, pharmaceutical and defence sectors.
Varan gained his Honours Degree in Mechanical Engineering at University College London (U.K). He is a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng Australia).

Richard J. Johannessen Jr.
Rick has been a member of the Katru Advisory Board over the last 4 years as a mentor and International Business Development Advisor. His career in business development and achievements with global corporations spans nearly 40 years. Recently he was President Asia/Pacific for Ingersoll-Rand in Hong Kong. Prior to that his long spell with Rockwelll International included roles as President & CEO of Asia/Pacific region based in Tokyo, President Asia/Pacific & Middle East, CEO Asia/Pacific in Hong Kong, President in Japan, Chairman in Australia and M.D. Rockwell Telecommunication. Upon semi-retirement he pursued humanitarian relief work as Director in the Asian region for Oasis Global, Country Director (Indonesia) for World Relief and International Resource Director for World Concern.
His achievements include expanding Rockwell’s high-tech business in Asia/Pacific/Australia to multi-billion dollars, winning a $1 billion dollar single contract in defence and negotiating more than nine JV’s with 100% China-owned ventures. In his humanitarian work, he was responsible for major relief and redevelopment work in several Asian countries including the rebuilding in Indonesia and Sri Lanka after the 2004 tsunami.
His other responsibilities have included roles as Chairman and President in over 20 organisations in Japan, China and Hong Kong. Many of them are Chambers of Commerce and Business Councils including the American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, Japan and Asia/Pacific Council of American Chambers of Commerce.
Rick is a Fellow of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in USA and holds an MBA in International Management (University of Dallas) and a B.Sc. in Chemistry (Minor Physics) (University of Washington)
Siva Niranjan
Niran is a founder member of the Board. He is currently the Head of Environmental Sustainability at a major European Business Services company rated top with 100A by CDP for Climate Change & Environment, with revenues in excess of US$4.1B and operating across 20 countries. As part of his role, he is responsible for the development and delivery of the organisation’s sustainable development strategic plan.
Niran has in excess of 30 years’ experience covering management consultancy, project and programme management, marketing, product development and general management in major financial, energy and public sector organisations for Price Waterhouse Coopers, Groupe Bull, Software AG, and U.K. Transport and Environment Agencies.
A Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering (Hons) graduate of University College, London, Niran is a Chartered Engineer (U.K.) and a Chartered IT Fellow (U.K.).
Dr. Bala (Bert) Nalliah
Dr. Bert has been with the Katru team since its inception as the product
development advisor for North American markets.
Dr. Bert has over 35 years of experience in product development and
manufacturing in the field of solvents purification for the North American
Laboratory chemical market. Starting at Caledon Laboratories in Ontario,
Canada as Chief Chemist to develop purification and analytical methods for
high purity solvents, he moved to Aldrich Chemical Company in Sheboygan,
WI as Product Manager to create and lead the business division for production and marketing.
Until recently retired he was VP at Tedia Company Inc. in Fairfield, OH. He still serves as a Board
Member of the Executive Committee at Tedia. During his 20 year tenure as head of new products,
production processes and engineering, he transformed Tedia from a small start-up to become the
largest producer of OEM high-purity chemical solvents in North America. He was instrumental in
Tedia recently establishing a joint venture as majority partner in China to build and operate the
largest high-purity manufacturing plant in Asia.
Dr. Bert's drive for continuous innovation in product development and strategic market expansion
has lead to creating new industry standards with significant changes and improvements in
purification processes, development of numerous analytical methods and operational
improvements. He was also responsible for Tedia's first custom-built data management system,
and the invention and development of specialized equipment for production and packaging.
Dr. Bert earned his PhD in Organic Chemistry from University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada.
Jega M. Rajan
Jega Rajan is a founder member of the Board. He has over 30 years of business experience in General Management,Technology, Sales and Financial Management. Previously he was the Chief Executive Officer of Infinitive Ltd, a leading financial services technology provider, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer of ASG Group, a leading IT Business Solutions Provider, as well as a Senior Director at Hewlett Packard and Compaq.
He is a recognised industry expert in the fields of technology and finance. Jega has worked in management roles in a variety of multinationals including Compaq, digital, Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (Canada), Ford Motor Company (Canada) and Xerox in the United Kingdom and he is focused on providing online financial options for the consumer market.
Jega holds an MBA from Cranfield University in the United Kingdom, is an Associate Member of The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants in the United Kingdom and is a Member of The Australian Institute of Company Directors
